We welcome expressions of interest to host a pre-conference field trip in the Cairns region on 7th October. Field trips should align to a conference stream(s). Preference may be given to closer proximity field trips, though we will consider locations up to 3 hours away.

Early Bird Registrations open: Monday 9 June 2025  

Notification of acceptance: Monday 16 June 2025  

Pre-conference Field Trips: Tuesday 7 October 2025 

Pre-conference Workshops: Wednesday 8 October 2025 

Conference sessions: Thursday 9 and Friday 10 October 2025 ​​

Abstract submissions will be reviewed by ALCA’s Conference Programming Group. With a limited number of session slots available, preference will be given to submissions that:  
 

  • Offer fresh, thought-provoking perspectives that spark discussion and debate. 

  • Inspire achievement and innovation. 

  • Present ideas in a unique or engaging format. 

  • Propose practical, accessible solutions to key challenges. 

  • Recognise and reflect traditional knowledge systems and Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander care for Country. 

  • Align with and add value to the conference theme and streams.  

Your submission should reflect the overarching conference theme ‘Scaling up: local action for global solutions’, and clearly identify the relevant stream(s). Multiple stream selections are allowed.    

 

We welcome abstracts from a diverse range of contributors, including practitioners, researchers, policymakers, businesses, and community representatives across various land conservation disciplines. We encourage submissions that showcase different skills, knowledge bases, perspectives and experiences.  

 

As part of ALCA’s Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Access and Engagement Strategy, we are committed to increasing the participation and representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and groups.

ABSTRACT REQUIREMENTS AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

We prefer abstracts to be submitted online via the abstract portal. If this is not possible, please reach out to ALCA for support via info@alca.org.au.

Abstract submissions close on Monday 19 May 2025, but we advise you to submit as early as possible in case you experience technical difficulties or require additional information. 

Submissions should identify the stream(s) most relevant to your abstract. 

Only submit your abstract once. 

Abstracts must meet the word limits below, and should include: 

  • Abstract title (7 word max) 

  • Keywords (20-word max)  

  • Background (200 word max)   

  • Summary (300 word max) 

Identify your top three preferred presentation styles and we will do our best to meet your preference, however this cannot be guaranteed, and we may offer you an alternative presentation option. 

Do not include references, diagrams or citations, and avoid abbreviations and acronyms. 

All funding sources should be acknowledged at the end of the abstract and included in the word count. If this information is extensive you will be able to send it separately after the submission deadline. 

You will be notified as to whether you will be invited to participate by Monday 16 June 2025

Presenters must register for the Conference at their own expense using the discounted speaker rate and are responsible for covering their own travel and accommodation costs, unless otherwise advised in writing.

The first author will be considered the key contact for the abstract. No more than three abstracts may be submitted per author. 

Abstracts may be published on the ALCA website. Please indicate if you do not want your abstract to published at the time of submission. 

Conference sessions may be recorded and made available for viewing after the conference and may be used for ALCA communications purposes. If you have concerns about this please contact info@alca.org.au
